PRIVATE REPOS NOW FREE ON GITHUB

In what may appear to be a new year gift, GitHub has announced that “GitHub Free” now includes unlimited private repositories with up to three collaborators per  repository.

According to a publication to a publication made available through GitHub’s site on the 7th of January, 2019.

In their words, “For the first time, developers can use GitHub for their private projects with up to three collaborators per repository for free. Many developers want to use private repos to apply for a job, work on a side project, or try something out in private before releasing it publicly. Starting today, those scenarios, and many more, are possible on GitHub at no cost. Public repositories are still free (of course—no changes there) and include unlimited collaborators.”

Before now, GitHub users, who didn’t want to pay were always offered free accounts but with the caveat was that their code had to be public.

To get private repositories, users had to pay. But following this announcement, that limitation is gone. Free GitHub users now get unlimited private projects with up to three collaborators.

The amount of collaborators is really the only limitation here and there’s no change to how the service handles public repositories, which can still have unlimited collaborators.
