The standard organization of Nigeria has confirmed that SSK concrete Electricity distribution pole is the only Electricity distribution pole that has been certified by the SON in the Rivers and Beyelsa States. This was the position of the coordinator of SON for Rivers and Beyelsa (Oladele Ayoola) during an inspection tour of facilities at the production site of SSK integrated services limited.
Mr Oladele Ayoola commended SSK integrated services Limited for complying with all necessary requirements and standard. While speaking to News men, he stated;
“What the Standard organization of Nigeria is out to do is encourage manufacturers, we take them from the grass root, work with them, explain all the requirement of the standard to them, conduct quarterly inspections, give them feedbacks on things they need to improve upon. Now for SSK, we are proud to say that SSK is the only company that has certified concrete electric poles in Rivers State.”
On his part the production manager of SSK Integrated Services Limited Mr Emmanuel Ogu stated that SSK was working hard to become the leading manufacturer of electricity distribution poles in Nigeria.
In his words, “The requirement by SON is that you use sand, cement and chippings, but I am sure that if you look at what other people are doing, you won’t see chippings. We are not saying that manufacturers wouldn’t get money, but they should do the right thing to support the society.
That is where we come in; we want to be the leading manufacturer of quality electricity poles in Nigeria that is where we are going to. We have seen that manifest in the Block industry where people drive all the way from Ahuoda to the vibrated block house to buy blocks”
SSK integrated Services Limited produces five different types of poles;
- High tension rectangular Poles
- High tension Circular Poles,
- Low tension Rectangular poles,
- Low tension circular poles,
- Special poles; these are poles built for special purposes, pole of 40m and above.
Following the various cases of electric poles collapse that was recorded in the region during the raining season, the Standard Organization of Nigeria had carried out a clamp down on electricity pole manufacturers that were not certified.
Mr. Ayoola stated that the motive of the clamp down was not to frustrate anyone’s business, but to ensure that the right standards are maintained by all manufacturers.
He therefore encouraged manufacturers to do the right thing.
